Don’t you sometimes wish you could go back in time and ‘tell yourself what you know now’? It would make our lives so much easier... Imagine the biggest mistake you ever made, and now imagine your life without having made that mistake. How different would your life have turned out? Where would you be if you hadn’t made that one mistake along the road? You would be in such a better place then... Having made a big mistake just three years ago, I realise now I’m letting go of one of the most important people in my life. One really does yearn for the past to be reverted, but that will never happen.

However, when you look on the bright side, that mistake was part of what brought you to your present state. If you eliminate that risk, the foundation of all your other happy experiences is potentially at stake. The friendships you formed, the laughter you shared, the good times with one another... may all disappear had you not made your mistake. Think of your life as a choose-your-own adventure book... if you don’t turn to one page, all the potential stories following that page will never happen. And only then can you realise that your big mistake has led you onto even bigger joys. And only then you can look back on your past without any regrets, and move on with your life.

Food for Thought

This leads me to my next point: some people may argue that ‘time travel will not occur in the future, simply because if it existed, we would just travel back in time and show ourselves how to make it now.’ This is plainly absurd, for it relies on the idea that there are no other factors affecting time travel and laws concerning time travel. Firstly, the manufacturers of the time machine will have patented the machine. If they go back in time and start distributing methods of making time machines, how will they make any money from their discovery? Next, we cannot ignore the possibility of laws that concern time travel. Maybe somebody realised that going to the past will have some sort of minor change to the present? After all, there is a possibility that someone uses these machines to go back in time, kill the makers of the time machine, and steal the blueprints of the machine? Leads to an infinite cycle of madness. To compensate for this, the makers may have only created a mechanism to just go into the future. This completely eliminates any chance of us getting the method of building the time machine. Also the possibility of limited access for the public to time travel... maybe only for strict government projects? Could rant on further, but just not in the mood...

Olivia got her student visa for America today. Just struck me that she’s leaving – way too depressed to do anything else. Plans for evening: friends marathon.
