paint your palette blue and gray

Food for thought #4

It seems that all human beings, even evil criminals, have some sort of subconscious set of good morals upon which they act. However, sometimes this morality gets pushed down too deep into our minds, so that we cannot remember their existence, or what they used to be. This is when people begin to change, and become unlike their ‘moral’ selves. But even the most hardened criminal can be ‘reborn’ into a good person. Then how is it that a mass murderer can be turned into a charitable social worker given the right conditions? It is the process in the middle – the ‘event’ if you will; a life-changing event which as a deep impact upon your feelings kicks you off on the path to morality. There usually will be some sort of occurrence which makes you realise, ‘hey, remember those morals that I had? Where are they now?’ This event could be as simple as the loss of a cherished item, or as big as the loss of a cherished person. This now helps you get onto the next stage: ‘realisation’. By realising every mistake you have made, you can dig up your set of morals and abide by them once again. And so, with the frequent help of ‘coincidence’ and ‘realisation’ mankind has succeeded in avoiding falling into evil for the most part.

Strangely enough, everyone has behaved like this since time immemorial. We may not realise it, but we always look back on our past mistakes, and learn for the future, do we not? And have we all not experienced at least one life or thought changing event in our lives? As shown, human morality is a fickle thing, so it is okay for someone to steer off the right path for a while – yet they can be set back on the right path with the right guidance and acceptance.
