The concept of an omnipotent deity controlling the outcomes of the earth is puzzling as always. How can god be omnipotent? Does he control all our actions? If not, why is he even a god anyway? There is nothing that we need to look up to him and pray for him to do – he cannot do it. Without omnipotence, he is just a fellow in the sky. So we assume that god is omnipotent, and controls the earth. Then, why does he let crimes occur in the world? Or does he know that they are going to happen, but does nothing to prevent them simply because it bemuses him? Does he let someone win the lottery, then turn around and give someone cancer? Does he ‘punish’ the world in some way because of our misdeeds, or do we do misdeeds because god is so unfair like that? We assume god to be such a caring and loving being. But how can we take this for granted? For all we know, Cain could have killed Abel because god was being a dick and wanted revenge… It’s an alteration of the age-old question: what came first? Man’s wrongdoings or god’s punishments?

Ok, here's my two cents
ReplyDeleteGod can control our actions, but the reason that the world isn't perfect is because he doesn't want robots and he doesn't want to control us - he accepts that we all sin, and he just wants US to accept that we all sin. He lets crimes be committed, and he lets us choose our own ways, (choose whether we believe in him or turn our back on him) but he knows that sooner or later we will have to face the consequences.
Anyway, about the chicken-egg sort of thing, the closest thing we have to answering the question is the Bible story of Adam and Eve, where they committed sin first |:
